Purpose:
To help beginner cyclists or those who haven't ridden in a long time become a part of the sport that we love, provide a supportive team to train with in a non-intimidating environment, and to motivate you to accomplish your 2012 fitness goals.

We will be conducting weekly rides, plus provide an overall training plan to get you from 0 to 100 miles for an October 2012 event.

We attended the ribbon cutting ceremony of the new bicycle rack on North Orange Avenue... the first bike rack of its kind to be placed on a state road in Florida! The rack is located in front of Ethos Restaurant in the Ivanhoe Village district, just south of Retro City Cycles. Mayor Buddy Dyer and Commissioner Robert Stuart, as well as representatives from FDOT were in attendance for this great event!

The 2012 model year sees the respected name Jamis written on the tubes of three models aimed at the cross market. At the top of the line is the Supernova, which comes race ready for $2,600.00.

The frame for each of the models is the same Kinesium aluminum, which Jamis describes as similar to 7005 series tubing, used in the 2011 models. Jamis only made minor revisions to the Supernova since 2011 models, including the change from a BB30 to a PF30 bottom bracket. The carbon stays also make a return, although they are mated to a beefed-up 34.9 mm seat tube to increase stiffness. The front end uses a 1 1/8″ to 1 1/2″ tapered head tube with a full carbon fork. The fork features a stout, CNC’ed cable hangerintegrated into the fork. The hydroformed top tube is shaped for shouldering, and it’s sloped a bit to accommodate a right shoulder (sorry, Kevin Pauwels and other “dirty side” dismounters!). Those of us that use our rides for more than racing endeavors will appreciate the ability to add a rack and fenders when things go longer than 45 minutes.

The Supernova gets a Rival build complemented by Kore Race+ cantilevers and Ritchey Zeta Pro wheels. For the more budget-minded, Jamis will also offer the Nova Pro with a Shimano Tiagra build for $1750 and a Nova Race with a Sora/Tiagra mix and mechanical Avid BB7 disc brakes for $1200.

If you were leery of the steps in the past years and wanted to join in on the fun you can do this event.

Join us for the RAAM (Ride Across America) Fundraiser Thursday May 19!

Our friend, customer, and fellow Jamis rider Steven Perezluha, recently qualified for the Race Across America (RAAM) by riding 462 miles in 23 hours and 56 minutes at the Sebring 24 hour race. This was 2nd place in the RAAM division. He now holds the under-20-year-old world record for a 24-hour non-drafting bicycle race. The RAAM is a 3,000 mile coast-to-coast bicycle race from California to Maryland; the race starts June 15, 2011. He will most likely be the only cyclist under the age of 23 to compete in this event!

Steven is holding a RAAM fundraiser Thursday, May 19, to raise money for the race (which will cost up to $20,000) and also to raise money for the National Alzheimer's Association. He is holding a fundraising banquet on May 19 at the Renaissance Building (1110 W. Ivanhoe, Orlando 32804) and tickets are $30. We recommend changing your handlebar tape at least once a year. If you ride your bike a lot or are very sweaty even change the handlebar tape twice a year. Folks ask us why, and fortunately we had a customer visit us that does not change their handlebar tape regularly. This is the corrosion buildup under the tape. What is the big deal? The corrosion pits the bars or worse makes small cracks. Thus next time you put the pressure on you handlebars ask yourself will they holdup?

Retro City Cycles will be hosting an S-Cargo trailer-building workshop on Saturday, October 16, beginning at noon.

This is a great opportunity to build your own trailer with the support and assistance of bike mechanics and people who have already built these trailers.

We will be using the Wike DIY cargo kits. You can order your kit and hardware through Retro City Cycles by emailing Dave or calling (407) 895-2700.

You can choose your trailer size (Prices include everything but decking):

Tour de France Starts Saturday!

Running from Saturday, July 3, to Sunday, July 25, the 97th Tour de France will be made up of 1 prologue and 20 stages and will cover a total distance of 3,642 kilometers.

Grand Start 2010 - Rotterdam
The 2010 Tour will be launched from the shouth side of Rotterdam for a prologue time-trial. The launching pad will be set up in Zuidplein, from where the riders will move north.
